Sonstegard Foods Company is a leading manufacturer and wholesaler of shell eggs along with powdered, liquid and frozen egg products. We operate facilities in five states and sell our products into domestic and international markets. Our Estherville, Iowa location has an immediate opening for Production Manager-in-Training. This position is primarily responsible to assist with all aspects of daily production, pasteurization, drying and packaging operations. Reporting to the Plant Manager and working closely with all departments within the plant, will oversee hourly associates in the plant.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Oversees production operations and the daily workflow and assignments of the production shift.
• Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications, and operating or production problems.
• Develops and implements operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality.
• Trains and manages production employees on the assigned shift.
• Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations; hold employees accountable to company standards, practices and policies.
• Confers with management personnel to establish quality control standards.
• Works with Quality Assurance to ensure USDA standards are met.
• Maintains knowledge of processes and equipment.
• Ensures that products are identified, weighed, and warehoused correctly.
• Troubleshoots issues that arise; Assist with Human Resources with personnel issues.
• Notifies maintenance department of equipment problems.
• Learn our procurement and sales methodologies.
• Ensures that employees comply with applicable safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Ensures paperwork is completed and signed correctly.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate as appropriate.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Bilingual (English and Spanish) strongly preferred.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is required to sit for prolonged periods, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and rarely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
