Our Harris, Iowa location has an immediate opening for Safety Manager. This position is primarily responsible for the management and oversight of the company’s safety programs. This position will report to the General Manager of Plant Production and will work with the management team and employees to maintain a safe working environment.

• Inspects the facility including the plant, barns, feedmill and maintenance areas to identify safety, health, and environmental risks.
• Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
• Develops and implements inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections.
• Develops health and safety procedures for all areas of the company.
• Drafts inspection reports to document inspection findings.
• Administer PSM program.
• Monitors compliance with safety procedures.
• Facilitates Safety Committee meetings.
• Administer workers comp and light duty assignments.
• Maintain PPE Inventory and distribute as needed.
• Maintains records of discharge of or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required.
• Maintain OSHA logs.
• Ensures that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.
• Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.
• Quality PSM experience (Ammonia refrigeration a plus).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate as appropriate.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to travel to pullet sites.

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field required; Master’s degree desirable.
• Three years of related experience preferred.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
• Bilingual (Spanish) desirable but not required.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Bilingual (English and Spanish) strongly preferred.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is required to sit for prolonged periods, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and rarely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to cold, wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
